Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Director of Risk Management to join Provident’s owner-side asset management team in Dallas, Texas. This role reports directly to the Managing Director – Asset Management, and partners closely with senior leadership, legal, finance, development, and operations teams to proactively identify, evaluate, and mitigate risk while ensuring appropriate insurance coverage, contractual risk transfer, and cost efficiency.
Success in this role requires exceptional communication, executive presence, and relationship management skills. The Director of Risk Management will serve as a trusted advisor to internal business leaders and external partners, translating complex insurance and risk issues into practical business recommendations while building strong, collaborative relationships across the organization and with brokers, carriers, lenders, investors, tenants, and legal counsel.
This is in-office role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary risk management advisor to executive leadership and cross-functional teams, effectively communicating complex insurance, contractual risk, and claims matters to facilitate informed business decisions and drive alignment among internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage Provident’s property/casualty and enterprise insurance programs across a diverse commercial real estate portfolio, including development, acquisition, construction/contractor’s liability, and operations.
- Lead the day-to-day procurement, negotiation, and administration of insurance programs to ensure appropriate coverage and cost optimization.
- Execute policy renewals and updates, including participation in strategic renewal meetings with brokers and carriers, gathering underwriting data, and preparing submission materials; serve as primary liaison with brokers and carriers.
- Oversee premium allocation, internal billing, and financing in coordination with accounting; assist with policy audits and related financial reporting as needed.
- Oversee strategic administration of the company’s surety bonding program, including procurement, documentation, and tracking.
- Oversee the maintenance of property schedules, exposure data, and COPE data, along with certificates of insurance, policies, endorsements, schedules of values, and other risk management records, to support underwriting, renewals, and risk analysis.
- Review property management agreements, construction contracts, leases, loan documents, joint venture agreements, and other contracts to identify and evaluate insurance requirements and risk transfer provisions.
- Manage insurance compliance processes, ensuring third-party adherence to contractual insurance requirements.
- Assist in negotiating insurance contractual requirements with lenders, contractors, investors, property managers, tenants, and other third parties.
- Partner with development, construction, and operations teams to assess project-level risks and loss prevention measures, and ensure compliance with insurance and bonding requirements.
- Support loss prevention and safety initiatives across business operations.
- Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on risk mitigation, loss prevention, safety best practices, and insurance requirements.
- Coordinate timely reporting of all property, casualty, and builders risk claims; support claims management and litigation matters from first notice through closure or settlement, working with internal and external stakeholders, adjusters, TPAs, counsel, and brokers as needed.
- Coordinate with Legal on claims, litigation, and corporate legal structure matters.
- Maintain claims-related documentation and assist with information requests throughout the claims process.
- Develop and propose recommendations for new or improved strategies to reduce total cost of risk and mitigate company risk exposures; present recommendations to leadership as appropriate.
- Identify emerging risks and help implement policies, procedures, and controls to strengthen the organization’s overall risk management strategy.
Qualifications & Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Real Estate, or a related field required.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in commercial real estate or construction risk management, insurance brokerage, or commercial insurance, with direct exposure to real estate property/casualty programs.
- Strong working knowledge of commercial insurance across multiple lines of coverage, and a strong understanding of construction, development, and property operations risk exposures.
- Demonstrated experience administering complex insurance programs and managing renewals, certificate administration, and broker/carrier relationships with limited oversight.
- Familiarity with insurance compliance, risk transfer concepts, contract review processes, and claims management.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills; ability to research problems independently, efficiently evaluate and implement solutions, and convey results clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills, with excellent attention to detail in documentation and data management.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship management skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business recommendations for non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to combine technical insurance expertise with exceptional communication, executive presence, and the ability to build trusted relationships across the organization and with external partners.
